During a long 11-10 shootout at Wembley, Liverpool defeated Chelsea to win the Carabao Cup. Kepa Arrizabalaga missed the game-winning penalty.
While the match was a fantastic event, it began with a sombre note as Liverpool and Chelsea players came together in support of the war-torn Ukraine.
Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta and Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson carried flowers in the country’s yellow and blue colours onto the ground during the Russian invasion of its neighbour.
Both teams stood for a minute of applause, as a message in yellow and blue on the stadium scoreboard read “Football Stands Together.”
Chelsea’s owner, Roman Abramovich, said on Saturday that he is “giving trustees of Chelsea’s charitable foundation the stewardship and care” of the club, capping off a rough week for the club.
this was after when calls were made in the UK Parliament for Russian oligarchs to be stripped of their assets, Mr Abramovich will however remain the club’s owner.
