Arson and stone pelting were reported in some areas of Karnataka’s Shivamogga town over the murder of Bajrang Dal Activist, Harsha. The city is non the edge and police personnel have been deployed in large numbers to prevent any untoward incident.
The State Home Minister Araga Jnanendra confirmed that no link so far was established between the murder & the on going hijab controversy.
“Hijab issue has nothing to do with this incident. It has happened for different reasons. Shivamogga is a sensitive city,” he told the media.
Earlier Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj S Bommai had said that police had found clues during their investigation and action would be taken soon.
A Bajrang Dal activist was allegedly murdered on Sunday in Karnataka’s Shivamogga following which security was tightened in the city. According to police, the incident took place around 9 pm. The victim has been identified as Harsha.
In retaliations, several vehicles were burnt in the Seegehatti area in Shivamogga city and the fire brigade had to be brought to contain the fire.
Deputy Commissioner Selvamani R told reporters that prohibitory orders under section 144 of the CrPC have been clamped in the town and orders have been given to shut all the schools and colleges.
State’s Minister KS Eshwarappa met the family members of Harsha and assured them that strict action will be taken.
