West London side Chelsea win the 17th edition of the Club World Cup over Sao Paulo (Brazil) based club Palmeiras. The final took place in the UAE between the current champions of Europe and the champions of South America.
After a goal less first half Chelsea’s record signing Romelu Lukaku broke the deadlock to put his team in front 9 minutes into the second half, the Brazilian side Palmerias responded strongly by winning a penalty and Palmeiras ace Veiga putting the ball past Mendy in the Chelsea goal from the penalty spot, this took the match to extra time where Chelsea won a spot kick in the 117 minute of the game, the hero of the 2021 Champions league final Kai Havertz took the responsibility on his shoulders and cooly put the ball past Weverton in the Palmeiras goal.
Palmeiras defender R.Luan got himself sent off in the dying minutes of the game. Chelsea have now claimed their third trophy under Thomas Tuchel – the UEFA Champions league, the Super Cup and now the Club World Cup, Thomas Tuchels men also find themselves in the final of the Carabao Cup after beating London rivals Tottenham Hotspurs in a two legged semi final.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool will face Chelsea for the final , the match would be held in the Wembley stadium in London on the 27th of February.
